Actriz de teatro y cine formada en el Actor´s Studio-Pace University, donde obtuvo su título de Maestría en Actuación (MFA) con una beca Fulbright. Sus estudios de pregrado los realizó en Cine y Video en la Universidad San Francisco de Quito, completando su formación como actriz en el Laboratorio de Teatro Malayerba (Quito), en el taller intensivo de investigación teatral (T.E.I.T) de teatro Simurgh y en el instituto INCINE. Ha participado en obras y películas dentro y fuera del país, entre las cuales se destacan: Gafas Amarillas (director), Panamá (director), Sin Muertos no hay Carnaval (director), y entre sus obras de teatro: Tazas Rosas de Té (Colectivo Mitómana/Artes Escénicas), Esas Putas Asesinas, Caída (Hemisferio Cero) (colectivo Mitómana Artes Escénicas), La Hija del Pobre (Teatro Simurgh Quito-Ecuador), Los Mercaderes (Adaptación libre del Mercader de Venecia bajo la dirección de Arístides Vargas- Teatro Malayerba, Ecuador), El Público y La Dama Duende ( Teatro Repertorio Español/ New York) Springtime, la Cantante Calva,The Ash Girls and the Prince of Nothing The Member of the Wedding y Eclipsed, también en Estados Unidos. Ha recibido además talleres de investigación para el actor y performance con los maestros Damian Alcazar y Lukas Avendaño (México-Ecuador) Mario Biagini del Workcenter de Jerzy Grotowsky (Italia) y Anne Bogart de Siti Company (NYC).
Miembro fundado Colectivo Mitómana/ Artes Escénicas cuya última obra Tazas Rosas de Té fue premiada como mejor producción teatral del año 2016 por el Municipio de Quito. Obtuvo además el reconocimiento como mejor actriz de cortometraje de ficción en el Festival La Orquídea en Cuenca-Ecuador 2015 y fue parte de los 21 artistas ganadores para el fondo SECU para la creación Artística en Artes Escénicas 2014. Actualmente funda el colectivo g.r.a.n.a.d.i.l.l.a.s, incubadora de artes escénicas expandidas en colaboración con de multiples hemisferios ( Mexico, Chile, USA, Ecuador). Born in Quito, Ecuador. Graduated with a BA in Film, and MA in Acting at the Actors Studio Drama School with a Fulbright scholarship. She studied at various institutions under different teachers: ¨Laboratorio de Invertigación Teatral Malayerba¨ with Arístides Vargas, Quito-Ecuador; Short Courses at Central School of Speech and Drama, London-UK; Acting Skills 1, McEwan College, Edmonton- Canada.
In 2007, she was part of T.E.I.T "Taller Estable de Investigación Teatral" a physical theater training group under the direction of Fiore Zulli and Carla Robertson from Teatro Simurgh. Maria Josefina has been seen in numerous plays, films, short films and commercials and has also appeared at New York’s Repertorio Español in several plays. She collaborates with Theater-Y in Chicago and IVP productions in NYC and the Bread and Puppet Theater in Vermont. She is a lifetime member of the Actors Studio and a performer of Mitómana Artes Escénicas theater company, an artist space of multidisciplinary nature: theater, dance, music, and plastic arts where the body is the conductor of the expression. At the moment she leaves in between Ecuador working at Mitómana/Artes Escénicas in Quito-Ecuador and Brooklyn- New York city. She currently founds the collective g.r.a.n.a.d.i.l.l.a.s, an expanded performing arts incubator in collaboration with multiple hemispheres (Mexico, Chile, USA, Ecuador).
